Something really cool should be happening on June 12 in Southern California/Baja. The Grunion should spawn that night at high tide. No guarantees but it's predicted that will be the night when these fish throw themselves on the beach to spawn. You can go watch them with a flashlight, or if you have a fishing license you can grab a couple with your bare hands. Either way should be a good reason to visit the beach in the middle of the night!

Far too many conferences are boring, repetitive and uninspiring. Frequently, we find ourselves preaching to the choir, perhaps just trying to impress each other. Then, every once in a while, an event manages to bring together the right “vibes” and that’s when ideas can coalesce and energize. I foun...

The first Earth Day, in 1970, was inspired by anger. The nation was a mess. Four million gallons of oil from a blown offshore well were smearing California beaches. Flames leapt from the surface of Ohio’s Cuyahoga River. Bald eagles, our national symbol, had been winnowed by huntin...

The big rigs rattling past smokestacks sure don't make this Chicago roadway look like the greenest street in America. But their tires roll over smog-eating pavement, the streetlights run on solar and wind power, the sidewalks were made with recycled concrete, and shrub-filled "bioswales" keep storm...
