Environment America - Environment Maryland Big Win for Clean Energy

This month, the Maryland Senate voted 32-13 to override Gov. Larry Hogan’s veto of a major clean energy bill after an outcry of bipartisan public support for the bill.

It’s a big victory for Maryland and for all of us who want to see more clean energy and less burning of fossil fuels.

The new law is a key element of Maryland’s plan to meet its carbon emission reduction goals -- reducing carbon emissions by the equivalent of taking 563,000 cars off the road each year.1

Environment Maryland and a coalition of local environmental advocates and renewable energy industry leaders helped win the victory, tapping into broad public support and inspiring hundreds of people to sign petitions and make phone calls to legislators in support of the bill.

Ultimately, public support urging legislators to support renewable energy won the day.

Environment America is building support for clean, renewable energy, working to commit more and more communities and campuses to 100% renewable energy.

Today, we took one more step in the right direction.

Environment America Federal Legislative Director
