This area was beautiful oasis when 5th Gobi lama founded Khamar monastery. It had rivers, red hills, was rich in Dinosaur bones and eggs and also had tick elm and saxaul forests. In 1937-1945 during the Russian Stalin era, the area was destroyed by the Red Army including Khamar monastery and the elm and saxaul forest. The tree roots were pulled out for fires. Local people rebuilt the Khamar Monastery. 

Now the GGP team is introducing new technology for reforestation in Mongolia. As they do this, 

they are also working technology to collect rain water to reduce erosion and support plant growth. This includes possibly collecting field water to build pools at sites to support wildlife and water conservation. To  learn more contact,
