The Intertwine Alliance is built on regional efforts dating back to 1988. The Alliance was formed in 2008 and launched as an independent non-profit organization in July 2011. With a small infrastructure footprint, TIA is developing a unique collaborative approach to problem solving as a major shift in how we work together to improve the quality of life of all people in the region.

As the organization turns two years old this summer, TIA has already completed a number of significant accomplishments:

• - Building the coalition from 28 paying partners to over 100 in two years.
• - Launching a website that integrates information from 28 parks and trails agencies into one on-line portal
• - Completing our region’s first Regional Conservation Strategy and Biodiversity Guide, a scientifically-sound strategy developed collaboratively by over 160 individuals from 75 organizations
• - Producing spring and fall summits and many workshops and events throughout the year (this spring’s summit attracted 340 professionals, elected officials and civic leaders)
• - Receiving two Bullitt Foundation grants that have allowed us to grow our capacity and implement new programs
• - Launching the “Our Common Ground” marketing campaign which highlights the region’s diversity and our shared stake in parks, trails and natural spaces
• - Producing the Our Common Ground Report that makes the case for investment in nature in the region and issues a challenge to the region’s elected leaders. 18 elected officials, including the mayors of both Portland and Vancouver, have already signed on to help lead the Our Common Ground challenge.
• - Developing Intertwine Daycation cards that provide itineraries for both residents and visitors to discover nature in the metropolitan region.
