The Tenkile Conservation Alliance is an award winning, internationally recognised non-government organisation based in Papua New Guinea. Awards include the Future for Nature Award, the Whitley Award and La Trobe University Distinguished Alumni Award. Well known Australian scientist Professor Tim Flannery says "there is no equivalent program anywhere in the Pacific region, and no other organisaiton I know of in a developing country that has had anything like this degree of success".
The holistic approach that has been taken for the past 10 years has been key to our success to save the critically endangered Tenkile Tree Kangaroo from 100 animals in 2003 to over 300 animals in 2008. The program couples education programs, capacity building, sustainable community development projects and community engagement which is monitored using scientific methodology.
